不管2017年是否被Residency 錄取,

I am officially a 5th Year Medical Student!!!

WOOHOOO!!! Nothing can describe how relieved I was when I found out I passed 4th year exam.

As usual, the inefficient medical school is inefficient. We were told that result will be released today, somewhere in the late afternoon. One of my batchmates enquired and was told the result would be out around 4pm. Out of frustration, I went to The Edge for my last day of Summer Gym membership promotion workout, just to kill time and distract myself from the stress & tension while waiting for result.

Halfway through my cardio workout on the treadmill, Henna called me but I didn’t answer. On one hand I was too out of breath to answer the phone, whilst on the other hand I knew she wanted to ask about result. Hence I continued running until a point where I slowed down to catch my breath. I replied her via whatsapp to rant about the med sch. Then only I realised I received another whatsapp msg from housemate, asking me how’s my result.

“Hey Kian, result is out! How’s your?”

@.@ WHAT! It’s out? I thought 4pm? Immediately I opened the VLE app on my iphone. The stupid app showed a long list of student id number who need to repeat 4th year with all of them jumbled up.

“no no no I can’t read this.” Hoping that mine wasn’t in there, I opened another proper file with both written and OSCE result.

Phewwwwwwwwwwwwwww… I heaved a sigh of relief. A long one indeed. Couldn’t believe it, I rechecked to make sure there was no error on reading. Double-checked, triple-checked. YES!!!! WOOHOO!

Not to mention how I was teased by Henna about how blur I was that I didn’t even know the result was out. XD But who cares? I passed!!!!!!

Sadly, there are quite a number of us didn’t make it through and need to repeat year 4. It was rather depressing. On one hand I was happy that I passed. But on the other hand I am not, as they are part of us, they would be the last few ppl that I would expect to fail. =(

Would really like to thank all of you guys who showed support and love throughout this tough period. Jeremy, Yeekuan, henna, Lydia Albert Leslie, all the lovely batchmates who fought through this battle together. We sailed through a thunder-storm!!!!!!!!!!

Anyway, done with 4 weeks of my elective, left 4 weeks, there I would have completed the very first task of year 5! :D

Hot hot Malaysia here I come!!!!!!!

The last day of Jan 2013.

Time flies @.@ without me noticing.

Passed my literature review for my SSC4, and got a decent B. Kinda unexpected but very happy with that. Put in much effort and I was just hoping for a pass. Hope this will be a good sign for a better year. :)

Have been feeling very tired everyday after placement. Struggling to do any revisioin when I am at home at night. Hopefully things will get better once I submit my case report for CCC, and can focus better during the stay in BRI oncology.

Struggling to sleep early, and struggling to wake up early =.= I should change the title of this post.

Just to share smth irrelevant. Myself with my snow baby!

Snow baby!

A pic a day failed

Partly, blame myself for being too busy, too occupied with work and too tired to post anything.

2nd-ly, blame the stupid icloud for not synch-ing my photos from my phone. Hence I have no photos to post here.

Some updates:

– It has been snowing heavily and we played snow. Snow stopped, melted, and just now, it started snowing heavily again.

– Primary care placement started and it was tiring. Met some very nice GP, great to have good groupmates, studied together and stressing each other. Placement has been tiring but fun so far.

– Have been trying to study harder. But somehow tend to get distracted halfway. I need to be more focused.

Crappy = Happy

My temporary phone is retarded, indescribably retarded. It literally has no function at all except making phone calls or sending texts. And it gives 6 SHORT buzzes/vibrations when I receive a text/call.

My whole room smells like urine. Ever since the plumber came to repair the toilet flush (which I don’t even know when was it done), my room stinks as it someone has peed on the carpet. The pungent smell is sickening, despite me leaving my window opened. (The air is freezing)

My lunch is crappy. Have been eating apples and bananas as I woke up late this morning and has got no time to make sandwiches. The cold weather is not helping at all.

However, I am a happy man today!!!

I assisted in a minor surgery in the GP clinic. My first time injecting LA+Adrenaline subcutaneously around the lesions. My first time removing viral warts and seborrheic keratoses (a kind of abnormal skin growth) using a blade on a patient who is AWAKE! My first time using a heat probe to do thermocoagulation (to stop bleeding). And I practically worked together with the GP! Very proud of myself LOL! *heads up*

Finally I met a non-bitchy non-racist female GP in that clinic. She is super duper nice. Normally I need to be thick skin and take the initiative to ask if I can do certain procedures. Today was a totally opposite case. She asked me if I want to do!!!! Of course I said yes. LOL! Patiently, she demonstrated and explained to me what should I do, and all the instructions were given clearly and precisely. Certainly there are still lotsa space of improvement for me, but my confidence level has definitely been boosted today. Venepuncture would just be a piece of cake for me. XD (Oh well I took blood for 5 patients yesterday, the 1st one was an epic fail. XD)

And Dr Adrian inspired me again today. He criticised alot of those management plans (by other GP partners) which could have been done much better, as if he was reading my mind (cos I don’t dare to point out). For example, a patient with yellow discoloration of his big toe nail, has been treated with anti-fungal medication for more than a year, without even a nail-clip test done! The drug he has been taking is known to have side effects such as liver toxicity and may cause loss of sense of olfaction. In fact, most of the anti-fungal drugs have side effects and interactions with other drugs. Hence it is really important to confirm the diagnosis before prescribing the drug, and patient should be well-informed about the side effects. Apparently the patient knows nuts, and he has been taking it for more than a year, and was given a repeat prescription. Until recently when he noticed the discoloration comes back, it seems like the drug is not working anymore, that’s why he came back.

The truth is, if a fungal infection is not causing much trouble, it could be left untreated. It is more like a cosmetic problem for girls who want to present nice and wear nice shoes etc…

If only I could follow Dr AK and Dr Adrian for more sessions.

Time really flies, 3rd week of GP placement is coming to an end, 2 more weeks to go. > <

Professionalism Ceremony

October 26, 2011 4 comments

It was held on the 30th September. Yeap don’t blame me, I have no time to update until now. (Haha, or I’d rather say that I’m just lazy)

Apparently it was the pioneer event among all the UK medical schools… (Bangga-nye) It was the first time they tried this and it turned out to be a big success. (according to them) So I’d expect more UK medical schools are gonna do that sooner or later. LOL!

It’s actually the same as our IMU pseudo-convo. But this was called “Professionalism Ceremony” which marks the end of our pre-clinical years as well as the starting of of our clinical years. So we need to be more professional, and be more ethical and own better  moral values @.@

Ironically, all 6 of us from IMU didn’t attend the pseudo-convo in IMU. But we attended this after 2 weeks here in Leeds. LOL! Cos it’s free We all were obliged to attend lar!

Okie, show you some pictures taken.

After months of torture, bugging uni admin for CAS, running to and fro bank, Putrajaya, my uni, schools, visa centre, and all the worries & paranoid…

I finally have my VISA granted!!!! YAY!!!!

Can’t describe how relieved I am right now.

But, come to think about it, I will be flying in less than a month time! I will be leaving the mother land that I have been staying for almost 23 years! I am leaving my comfort zone to a total strange place, a total unfamiliar era! ><
